ANAHEIM, Calif., May 27 (UPI) -- Vladimir Guerrero's two-run inside-the-park homer in the eighth inning Friday night lifted the Los Angeles Angels to a 5-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
Guerrero's luck came at the expense of right fielder Jay Gibbons, who slammed his shoulder into the wall trying to retrieve the ball. Gibbons was replaced Nick Markakis.
Los Angeles starter Ervin Santana pitched seven-plus innings and allowed two runs on six hits while striking out two and walking two. Scot Shields (2-3) relieved Santana in the eighth and struck out two in the inning to pick up the win.
Bruce Chen started for the Orioles and pitched six innings giving up two runs on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
Todd Williams (1-2) absorbed the loss, surrendering three runs on five hits in just one-third of an inning.
Baltimore has dropped 14 of their last 18 games on the road.
