CHICAGO, May 25 (UPI) -- Chicago's Mark Buehrle ran his string of innings without allowing an earned run to 21 in helping the White Sox to a 3-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics.
Buehrle (6-2) lasted seven innings in Wednesday's game, giving up an unearned run on six hits and three walks. He also struck out three as the White Sox swept a 3-game series with the Athletics for the first time since May 1997.
Oakland, which has lost five consecutive games, scored in the third when Mark Kotsay singled and moved into scoring position on a passed ball. He gave the Athletics the lead off an Eric Chavez single.
The White Sox scored twice in the fifth when Rob Mackowiak hit a lead-off double and Scott Podsednik drove him in with another two-base hit. Jim Thome's single allowed Podsednik to score and put Chicago ahead 2-1.
Chicago increased its lead the next inning with Mackowiak getting a two-out single to score Jermaine Dye. All the White Sox runs came off Oakland starter Dan Haren (4-4).
The Athletics got a run in the eighth but White Sox closer Bobby Jenks stopped the rally and then worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his 13th save.
