STRASBOURG, France, May 25 (UPI) -- Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic and Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain Thursday advanced at the Strasbourg International Tennis Tournament in France.
Vaidisova, the second seed, was a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, winner over No. 7 Jie Zheng of China.
The fourth-seeded Medina Garrigues, who is the defending champion, beat unseeded Elena Vesnina of Russia, 6-2, 6-4.
Other winners were eighth-seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia, who beat unseeded Na Li of China, 7-5, 6-1, and unseeded Shuai Peng of China, who beat another non-seed, Martina Muller of Germany, 7-5, 6-4.
In the semifinals, Vaidisova, who is No. 18 in the latest world rankings, will be tested by Jankovic; and Medina Garrigues meets Shuai.
The tournament's winner on Saturday will claim $28,000.
