MEMPHIS, May 25 (UPI) -- After a 6-under 64 on Thursday, Chris Smith is the leader after one round of the PGA's St. Jude Classic at Memphis.

The 1993 PGA Champion Paul Azinger and Tom Pernice Jr. are tied for third place at 3-under 65.

Smith got his only win on the PGA Tour at the 2002 Buick Classic.

"Today I actually made some putts, which is always fun for me," said Smith. "It doesn't happen on a real regular basis, and my putter felt great. I made some long ones and everything just kind of happened. (But) the golf course is playing tough. I'm not sure what happened. Everything started clicking together and working. I was playing well and I kind of felt like that all year."

His earnings for the year -- $39,020 -- make him 207th on the money list.
