
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., May 24 (UPI) -- On a goal by Carlos Ruiz in the 87th minute Wednesday night, FC Dallas beat the New York Red Bulls, 2-1.
With the victory, the Hoops improved to 6-1-3. They are in first place in the Western Division with 21 points overall, eight points better than second place Houston.
Red Bulls mid-fielder Seth Stammler opened the scoring in the eighth minute with his third goal of the season. It followed a Hoops' penalty.
FC Dallas, which extended its unbeaten streak to four matches, scored the equalizer in the 76th minute when Kenny Cooper sent a header past Red Bulls goal-keeper Tony Meola.
With the loss, New York sank to 1-2-5 after getting its first win of the season last Saturday night with a 5-4 win over Chicago.
The Red Bulls are in last place in the Eastern Division with only eight points.
