Sweden wins World Ice Hockey gold

RIGA, Latvia, May 21 (UPI) -- Jesper Mattsson and Fredrik Emvall scored goals Sunday as Sweden beat the Czech Republic, 4-0, for the gold at the World Ice Hockey Championship in Latvia.

Niklas Kronwall added a goal and an assist for Sweden, which also captured gold at the 2006 Winter Olympics -- and became the first team to win both gold medals in the same year.

Goalie Johan Holmqvist made 15 saves for Sweden, which was playing without forward Mika Hannula -- who was suspended one game for a hit on Canada's Sidney Crosby.

Milan Hnilicka stopped 22-of-26 shots faced for the defending champion Czech Republic, who beat Canada in last year's final.

Finland beat Canada, 5-0, in the bronze medal game earlier in the day.
