CONCORD, N.C., May 20 (UPI) -- Jimmie Johnson won the 2006 Nextel All-Star Challenge Saturday night at Concord, N.C.
His No.48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet crossed the finish line 1.729 seconds ahead of Kevin Harvick.
The Nextel All-Star Challenge is an invitation only event run on Saturday night where only winning is important.
The field is made up of drivers and owners who have won at least one race during the preceding year, series champions from the last 10 years, past Nextel All-Star Challenge winners, the winner of the 2006 Nextel Open, Scott Riggs, and the winner of a fan vote Kyle Petty.
The All-Star Event has been held every year since 1985, all of them at the Lowe's Motor Speedway with the exception of the 1986 edition held at Atlanta.
