
HAMBURG, Germany, May 16 (UPI) -- Four seeds had opening-round wins Tuesday at the $2.45 million Masters Series Hamburg, including Russian Nikolay Davydenko and Argentine Gaston Gaudio.
Davydenko beat Chilean Nicolas Massu 6-3, 6-4, and 2004 French Open champion Gaudio beat Spaniard Alberto Martin 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
The two other seeded winners were Chilian Fernando Gonzalez and German Nicolas Kiefer. Gonzalez handled Russian Dmitry Tursunov 6-4, 6-3.
In an upset, Frenchman Sebastien Grosjean beat 14th-seeded American Robby Ginepri 7-5, 7-5.
Rainer Schuettler" class="tpstyle">German Rainer Schuettler defeated Lukas Dlouhy" class="tpstyle">Czech Lukas Dlouhy 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. The lucky-loser Dlouhy replaced top-seeded and reigning Hamburg Masters champion Roger Federer in the draw on Monday.
Federer pulled out citing fatigue after losing to Spaniard Rafael Nadal in Sunday's five-hour, five-set final at the Italian Masters in Rome.
