
WASHINGTON, May 13 (UPI) -- Alecko Eskandarian and Jaime Moreno scored goals Saturday night as D.C. United beat the Kansas City Wizards, 2-1.
With the victory, United took over first place in the Eastern Conference standings at 4-1-2 overall.
United got its first goal from Eskandarian in the 12th minute and Moreno scored in the 23rd minute.
Kansas City got its lone goal on a penalty kick by Sasha Victorine in the 16th minute.
United had eight shots on goal to six for Kansas City.
The Wizards (4-2-1), who previously held the top spot in the Eastern Division, dropped to second place with 13 points.
United will have a chance to increase its one-point lead over the Wizards when it plays at Columbus next Saturday. Kansas City will play at Real Salt Lake.
