
ATLANTA, May 14 (UPI) -- Alfonso Soriano hit his 12th home run Sunday as Washington trounced the Atlanta Braves, 8-1.
The Nationals averted a three-game sweep by Atlanta.
Soriano had two runs, three hits and three RBI; Ryan Church had one run, one hit and drove in two runs; Wiki Gonzalez had one run and three hits; and Ryan Zimmerman had two hits and one RBI for the Nationals (13-25), who snapped a four-game losing streak.
Winner Tony Armas Jr. scattered three hits over seven scoreless innings with two walks and six strikeouts.
Wilson Betemit homered but no other player had more than one hit for the Braves (17-20), who had a three-game winning streak broken.
Loser John Thomson (1-3) gave up eight hits and five runs in five innings.
Braves' third baseman Chipper Jones had his 12-game hitting streak snapped.
With one hit, Atlanta's Jeff Francoeur extended his hitting streak to 12 games.
