Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

BERLIN, May 10 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo of France advanced to the quarterfinals of the German Open at Berlin.
Mauresmo, the tournament's top seed, clobbered Vera Dushevina of Russia, 6-1, 6-2.
Also, No. 3 seed Justine Henin-Hardenne of Belgium beat Mara Santangelo of Italy, 6-4, 6-1; second-seeded Nadia Petrova of Russia beat fellow Russian Vera Zvonareva 6-1, 7-6 (7-3); and fourth-seeded Patty Schnyder of Switzerland topped Maret Ani of Estonia, 6-1, 6-4.
Among other winners were Elena Dementieva, former world No. 1 Martina Hingis of Switzerland; No. 6 Svetlana Kuznetsova; No. 8 Daniela Hantuchova; and No. 10 Dinara Safina of Russia.
