MLB: Kansas City 4, Cleveland 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 8 (UPI) -- Doug Mientkiewicz was 2-for-2 with a walk while driving in a pair of runs Monday as the Kansas City Royals beat the Cleveland Indians, 4-3.

John Buck homered and Emil Brown also drove in a run for the Royals, who won for just the third time in 11 games.

The victory improved Kansas City's record to 8-22 as the Royals avoided matching their worst start in team history through 30 games, set last season at 7-23.

Mike Wood (3-0) pitched 4 1/3 innings in relief of Kansas City starter Denny Bautista. Wood allowed just three hits with one strikeout.

Grady Sizemore tripled, homered and scored twice for the Indians, who lost for the third time in five games. Jason Michaels and Casey Blake each added an RBI in the win.

Paul Byrd (4-3) took the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits with two walks in seven innings.
