Gadhafi's soccer mad son plays in Italy

UDINESE, Italy, May 8 (UPI) -- Saadi Gadhafi, son of Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi, says he will have to "ask Dad" about spending another season with an Italian soccer team.

The 35-year-old football enthusiast's career in Series A has involved two games so far in three years, the Italian news agency Ansa reported. Plagued by injuries and a three-month suspension for using a banned drug, he played one game during his two years at Perugia and his second on Sunday for Udinese.

"I don't know if I'll be playing next season. I'll have to ask Dad," Saadi Gadhafi said after Udinese beat Cagliari 2-0.

The younger Gadhafi is the president of the Libyan Soccer Federation and a part-owner of the legendary Italian team Juventus.

Nedo Sonetti, the Udinese coach, said that Saadi is not just a rich amateur and deserves a chance.

"It's great to see a boy making such an effort in a sport which he loves so deeply," Sonetti told Ansa.
