Rochus, Melzer make BMW Open semifinals

MUNICH, Germany, May 5 (UPI) -- Jarkko Nieminen and Olivier Rochus led the quarterfinal winners Friday at the clay-court BMW Open in Munich, Germany.

The 3rd-seeded Nieminen, from Finland, was a 7-5, 2-6, 6-2, winner over Robin Vik of the Czech Republic. The Belgian-born Rochus topped qualifier Denis Gremelmayr of Germany, 6-4, 7-5.

Belgium's Kristof Vliegen beat Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany, 7-5, 6-4, and Jurgen Melzer of Austria beat the 6-foot-10 inch Ivo Karlovic of Croatia, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.

In Saturday's semifinals, Nieminen faces Vliegen, and Rochus will play Melzer.

Sunday's title winner will earn $44,100.
