MLB: St. Louis 7, Florida 2

MIAMI, May 5 (UPI) -- Albert Pujols hit a three-run homer in a seven-run fifth inning Friday night as St. Louis topped the Florida Marlins, 7-2.

Gary Bennett had a run, one hit and two RBI; Jim Edmonds had one run and two hits; and Pujols had two hits for the Cardinals (18-12), who broke a four-game losing streak.

Winning pitcher Jeff Suppan (3-2) yielded two runs and five hits in 8 1/3 innings with three walks and four strikeouts.

Dan Uggla and Alfredo Amezaga each knocked in a run, while Hanley Ramirez had two hits and scored once for the Marlins (8-19), who had won their two previous games.

Loser Sergio Mitre (1-4) was torched for seven runs and 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings with two walks and five strikeouts.
