OCALA, Fla., May 4 (UPI) -- Harold "Bunny" Levitt, who made 499 consecutive free throws and showed off his remarkable talent with the Harlem Globetrotters, has died at 96.

Levitt, a Chicago native who stood only 5 feet 4 inches, was in his 20s when he made his mark at a Chicago Sun-Times-sponsored event on April 6, 1935. He died Sunday of natural causes at Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Fla., the Ocala Star-Banner said. Later, he shot 871 out of 872 attempts in another free throw contest.

Levitt, who was white, traveled with the famed all-black Globetrotters showcasing his free-throw skills between quarters.

He also competed against those who dared challenge him. The prize for outshooting him was $1,000. The Globetrotters never paid out a dime.
