Srichaphan, Schuettler lose in BMW openers

MUNICH, Germany, May 1 (UPI) -- Sixth-seeded Thai Paradorn Srichaphan and local favorite Rainer Schuettler were both first-round losers Monday at the BMW Open in Munich, Germany.

Argentine Juan Monaco defeated Srichaphan 6-4, 6-4, and Czech Robin Vik defeated 2002 Munich runner-up Schuettler 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-3.

Also, Belgian Kristof Vliegen defeated Serb Janko Tipsarevic 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 and Czech Jan Hernych beat German Andreas Beck 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 6-4.

This week's top seed is Argentine Guillermo Coria. Argentine David Nalbandian, who is not defending his title this week, beat Romanian Andrei Pavel in last year's final.
