Mench, Broussard co-AL weekly players

NEW YORK, May 1 (UPI) -- Texas Rangers outfielder Kevin Mench and Cleveland Indians first baseman Ben Broussard were co-winners for the American League's top player for the week.

Mench, who hadn't homered or driven in a run all season until last week, came within one game of a major league record by homering in seven straight games through last Friday.

For the week, Mench batted .435 with four home runs, 10 runs batted in and a .957 slugging percentage.

Broussard also had four home runs with 13 runs batted in while batting .625 for the week. He had eight RBI against Boston last Thursday.
