ENGLEWOOD, Colo., April 19 (UPI) -- The San Francisco 49ers will have two first-round picks in the 2006 NFL Draft, after acquiring the 22nd overall selection in a deal with the Denver Broncos.
The 49ers already had the sixth pick in the upcoming draft. The Broncos will receive selections in the second round (37th overall) and the third round (68th overall) in return.
"We took advantage of a great opportunity to acquire a second first-round draft pick today after working out a trade with the Denver Broncos," 49ers head coach Mike Nolan said Wednesday. "We feel like we acquired more value by making the trade for this pick."
Denver originally acquired the 22nd pick from Washington in a trade last April that enabled the Redskins to take Auburn quarterback Jason Campbell in the first round.
