
EDMONTON, Alberta, April 17 (UPI) -- Jarret Stoll scored while shorthanded late in the third period Monday to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a 4-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche.
Edmonton was locked into the eighth position before the game began and will face the top-seeded Detroit Red Wings in the first round of the NHL Western Conference playoffs.
Colorado solidified its position as the seventh seed and will face the Dallas Stars in the first round.
Raffi Torres and Rem Murray each scored a goal and Ty Conklin made 16 saves for Edmonton, which ended the season with two straight wins. Jaroslav Spacek added an empty-net goal for the Oilers.
Joe Sakic and Patrice Brisebois each scored a goal and Jose Theodore stopped 32 shots for Colorado, which has lost three straight and four of its last five.
