BEIJING, April 16 (UPI) -- Jeev Milkha Singh of India Sunday was a surprise winner of the China Volvo Open Golf Tournament at Beijing.
At 10-under-par 278, he was one stroke better than Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano of Spain. The 34-year-old Singh shot only 2-under 70 in the final round, but was able to beat all challengers.
"This is fantastic," Singh said. "When I was injured (several years ago), I didn't know if I was going to come back in the sport."
Fernandez-Castano also closed with a 70. England's David Lynn, the leader after both the second and third rounds, closed with a 73 and finished in third at 8-under 280.
Defending champion Paul Casey ended with a 72 and shared fourth place at 7-under 281 with Peter Fowler (71), Jarrod Lyle (70) and Simon Wakefield (71).
First-round leader Christian Cevaer of France, who struggled after the first day, tied for 20th at 2-under 286.
