MLB: Toronto 8, Boston 6

BOSTON, April 14 (UPI) -- Vernon Wells hit a grand slam during a six-run second inning Thursday night as Toronto beat the Boston Red Sox, 8-6.

Eric Hinske went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored; and Frank Catalanotto had one hit, scored once and drove in one for the Blue Jays (5-4). Toronto, which won two of the three games, has scored at least six runs in six of its nine games this season.

Winning pitcher Ted Lilly (1-0) gave up only one run and six hits in seven innings with no walks and 10 strikeouts.

David Ortiz went 2-for-5 with three RBI, including a two-run home run in the eighth inning; while Kevin Youkilis went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored for the Red Sox (6-3).

Boston has dropped two straight on the heels of a five-game winning streak.

Loser Matt Clement fell to 1-1.
