MLB: Florida 9, San Diego 2

MIAMI, April 13 (UPI) -- Mike Jacobs and Dan Uggla combined to knock in five runs Thursday as the Florida Marlins ripped San Diego, 9-2.

Jacobs hit a three-run homer while Uggla, who had two hits and scored three runs, added a two-run shot. Josh Willingham had two hits and two RBI for the Marlins (2-6), who broke a five-game losing streak.

Winning pitcher Jason Vargas (1-1) yielded two runs and just two hits in six innings. He walked five and struck out three.

Vinny Castilla and losing pitcher Dewon Brazelton each had an RBI for the Padres (3-5), who had won the first two games of the three-game set.

Brazelton (0-2) was pounded for eight runs and six hits in four-plus innings with four walks and no strikeouts. He sank to 0-16 lifetime on the road.

San Diego was trying for its first sweep of the Marlins since Aug. 11-13, 2000.
