MLB: Chi. White Sox 4, Detroit 3

DETROIT, April 12 (UPI) -- Jim Thome Wednesday hit his third home run in as many games as the Chicago White Sox edged Detroit, 4-3.

Thome added a double to key a three-run sixth inning and Paul Konerko had two hits and two RBI for the White Sox (4-4), who have won three straight games after a four-game skid.

Jose Contreras (1-0) won his ninth straight decision dating back to last season. He allowed one run and six hits in eight innings with one walk and two strikeouts.

Closer Bobby Jenks, who was shaky in the ninth, recorded his third save.

Chris Shelton, who had two RBI, and Craig Monroe hit solo homer runs for the Tigers (5-3), who have lost three in a row after starting the season 5-0.

In seven innings, losing pitcher Nate Robertson (1-1) gave up four runs and five hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
