SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 12 (UPI) -- The San Francisco 49ers traded wide receiver Rashaun Woods to the San Diego Chargers Wednesday in exchange for cornerback Sammy Davis.
Both are former first-round picks. The 49ers took Woods in the first round of the 2004 draft, and Davis went to the Chargers in round one of the 2003 draft.
Davis has played in 44 games for San Diego -- starting 30 times -- recording 122 tackles, three interceptions and one sack.
"This was an opportunity for us to strengthen ourselves at a position of need with a proven NFL starter," said San Francisco Head Coach Mike Nolan.
Woods spent most of 2005 on injured reserve with a thumb injury. He became expendable after the 49ers signed free agent wide receivers Antonio Bryant and Bryan Gilmore.
