Braves put Chipper Jones on the DL

ATLANTA, April 11 (UPI) -- The Atlanta Braves Monday placed third baseman Chipper Jostnes on the 15-day disabled list with grade one sprains of both his right ankle and right knee.

He was injured in the seventh inning of Sunday's 6-5 loss at San Francisco when he spikes got caught in the wet grass as he charged a grounder by the Giants' Mike Matheny.

"Our doctors say that injury heals itself," said Braves general manager John Schuerholz on the team's Web site. "I hate to lose him for one day (but) it just takes time. It should take no more than that time and maybe not even quite as much time as the 15 days will provide. To be absolutely certain that he is healthy when he returns, we're putting him on the list."

Jones, who turns 34 on April 24, had hit safely in the first five games before an 0-for-3 on Sunday and is batting .238 with six RBI.
