NHL: New Jersey 3, N.Y. Rangers 2

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., April 10 (UPI) -- Brian Gionta scored the game-winning goal in the third period Sunday as New Jersey edged the New York Rangers, 3-2.

The goal extended both Gionta's points streak and New Jersey's winning streak. He has points in 11 straight games (eight goals and seven assists), while the Devils have won their last seven games.

Sergei Brylin and Scott Gomez also scored goals and Martin Brodeur made 24 saves for the Devils (42-27-9). New Jersey, which has won its last four home outings, spilt eight games with the Rangers this season and moved within two points of Philadelphia for the fifth playoff spot in the East with 93 points and four games left to play.

The Flyers have five games remaining.

Blair Betts and Sandis Ozolinsh each scored and Kevin Weekes allowed three goals on 26 shots faced in goal for the Rangers (44-22-12), who had a three-game winning streak broken.

They have 100 points.
