
COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 9 (UPI) -- Jason Williams scored the game-winning goal in the second period Saturday as Detroit beat the Columbus Blue Jackets, 4-2.
It was the back end of a home-and home weekend series.
Brendan Shanahan, Tomas Holmstrom and Chris Chelios also scored goals; Mark Mowers, Andreas Lilja, Mikael Samuelsson, Niklas Kronwall, Steve Yzerman, and Robert Lang all had assists; and goaltender Chris Osgood stopped 27 shots for the Red Wings (54-15-8), who have won four in a row. With 116 points, Detroit is nine points ahead of Dallas for first overall in the Western Conference and eight points ahead of Carolina and Ottawa for first place overall in the NHL.
Jan Hrdina and Manny Malhotra scored goals; David Vyborny had an assist; and goalie Pascal Leclaire stopped 26 of 29 shots for the Blue Jackets (32-41-4), who have lost their last two games.
Columbus was only 1-7 against the Red Wings this season.
