NHL: N.Y. Islanders 5, Washington 0

UNIONDALE, N.Y., April 8 (UPI) -- Alexei Yashin had two goals and two assists Saturday night as the New York Islanders routed Washington, 5-0.

Trent Hunter, Jason Blake and Robert Nilsson also scored; Blake added three assists; Nilsson had two assists; and goalie Rick DiPietro stopped all 20 shots he faced to pick up his first shutout of the season for the Islanders (34-38-5), who broke a six-game losing streak.

Capitals' goaltender Brent Johnson was peppered for 45 shots, including 36 over the first two periods, and had to make 40 saves, as Washington (25-40-12) lost its fourth straight game.

Both teams are out of the NHL playoff picture.
