NHL: New Jersey 6, Pittsburgh 4

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., April 6 (UPI) -- In a big effort, Patrick Elias had a hat trick and added two assists Wednesday night as New Jerset beat Pittsburgh, 6-4.

Scott Gomez had four points with a goal and three assists; Zach Parise and Brian Rafalski each scored once; while Martin Brodeur made 25 saves for the Devils (40-27-9).

With the win, New Jersey moved within four points of idle Philadelphia for the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Andy Hilbert scored two goals; Sidney Crosby scored once; Brooks Orpik had two assists; and goalie Marc-Andre Fleury made 21 stops for the Penguins (19-43-13), who are 1-6-1 in their last eight games and play five of their remaining seven games are on the road.
