SAN DIEGO, April 6 (UPI) -- Starter Matt Morris collected the victory in his San Francisco debut, pitching the Giants to a 3-1 victory over the San Diego Padres.
Morris (1-0) allowed five hits over 6 1/3 innings, and had only given up two before San Diego's Adrian Gonzalez drove a home run to open the seventh inning.
San Francisco managed just six hits in the game and scored three times in the sixth inning with the ball leaving the infield just once to hand Padres starter Shawn Estes (0-1) the loss.
Omar Vizquel opened the rally with the single to left and Ray Durham reached on a ground ball. Barry Bonds was walked to load the bases. The Giants got another infield dribbler that could not be handled cleanly, allowing Vizquel to score.
Lance Niekro walked to force in Durham and Bonds scored during a double play to make the score 3-0.
