HOUSTON, April 3 (UPI) -- Brian Ching scored four goals in boosting the Houston Dynamo to a 5-2 victory over the Colorado Rapids.
The victory Sunday was the first game for the Dynamo, a new entry this season to Major League Soccer. Ching's four goals were one short of an MLS record while Houston's Dwayne De Rosario tied a league mark with four assists.
About midway through the first half De Rosario passed to Wade Barrett who aimed a shot on goal. Ching deflected the attempt past Colorado goalie Joe Cannon for the first-ever Dynamo goal.
The Rapids' Kyle Beckerman tied the score at 1-1 two minutes later, beating Houston goalie Pat Onstad, but Ching had two goals in a 7-minute span late in the half for a 2-goal edge. Colorado's Jovan Kirovski cut into the Dynamo lead with a goal early in the second half. Ching then converted a pass from De Rosario at the 72-minute mark for a 4-2 advantage.
Alejandro Moreno completed the scoring with an unassisted goal in extra time.
