FRISCO, Texas, April 2 (UPI) -- Forward Kenny Cooper scored the game-wining goal Saturday as FC Dallas beat the Chicago Fire, 3-2.
Before 19,000 fans in the MLS season-opener for both teams, Cooper headed a shot into the back of Chicago's net as it appeared the contest would end in a 2-2 draw.
In the 12th minute, the Fire's Chad Barrett scored the first goal of the contest, slipping a one-timer from inside the penalty area that flew right past Dallas goalkeeper Dario Sala.
Arturo Alvarez, Roberto Mina, and Cooper accounted for the goals for FC Dallas. Barrett and Chris Rolfe scored the Fire's goals.
Chicago had 15 scoring attempts to 12 for FC Dallas. Both goalkeepers managed five saves.
Next Saturday, FC Dallas hosts Real Salt Lake while Chicago plays at defending champion Los Angeles.
