
SUNRISE, Fla., April 1 (UPI) -- Joe Nieuwendyk had two goals and an assist Saturday as the Florida Panthers posted a 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Nathan Horton and Olli Jokinen each had a goal and Roberto Luongo made 42 saves for Florida, which has won eight of its last nine games. Florida is six points behind Tampa Bay for the eighth and final playoff spot in the NHL Eastern Conference.
Darryl Sydor had a goal and an assist and Martin St. Louis scored his 26th goal of the season for the Lightning, who have lost two of their last three games. John Grahame stopped 22 shots before being pulled in favor of Sean Burke in the second period.
Burke finished with nine stops for Tampa, which has 83 points and fell into sole possession of eighth-place in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta, which defeated Carolina on Saturday, is in ninth place just five points behind Tampa.
