More women's rooms for Busch Stadium

ST. LOUIS, March 31 (UPI) -- St. Louis Cardinals officials say they will make sure the number of women's restroom facilities in the new Busch Stadium complies with the law.

Cardinals President Mark Lamping issued a statement Thursday saying the team recognized builders didn't follow a 1995 state law requiring as many toilets in women's restrooms as there are toilets and urinals in men's rooms.

Lamping said the law was obscure but the team "will make modifications to the ballpark to ensure we are in compliance," the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The new stadium has 77 public bathrooms, with slightly more than half of them designated for women. However, there are 39 more toilets or urinals for men than there are toilets for women.

Earlier this week, the building commissioner at the time the stadium was built, Ronald H. Smith, said builders did not have to follow state law as long as local ordinances were observed. Smith is now the city's operations manager.
