ALBUQUERQUE, March 26 (UPI) -- Joh-Teena Filipe tallied 11 points to help the fifth-seeded Utah Utes to a 57-54 victory over the eighth-seeded Boston College Eagles Saturday.
Shona Thorburn netted 10 points in the Albuquerque Region NCAA semifinal game, and Kim Smith was held to seven points. With the win, Utah, (27-6), managed to earn its first Elite Eight berth in program history. Julie Larsen also had 10 points for the Utes, who will take on second-seeded Maryland next.
For Boston College, Brooke Queenan posted 21 points and nine rebounds, but the senior missed a three-pointer at the end of regulation that would have forced overtime. Aja Parham and Lisa Macchia managed 10 points apiece for the Eagles.
Both teams shot just over 36 percent from the floor.
