NCAA: Villanova 60, Boston Col. 59

MINNEAPOLIS, March 24 (UPI) -- A goaltending call on Will Sheridan's layup attempt with three seconds left in overtime Friday night gave Villanova a 60-59 victory over Boston College.

The top-seeded Wildcats moved into the regional finals of the NCAA Tournament by overcoming a 16-point deficit and then riding a game-saving performance by Randy Foye.

Foye scored 29 points -- while no one else from Villanova was producing a point -- in the first 11 minutes of the second half.

Jared Dudley put Boston College in front with a layup with 12.2 seconds left in overtime and the Eagles knocked the ball out of bounds with four seconds remaining. Villanova then ran a perfect inbounds play in which Sheridan broke free under the basket. His shot was blocked, but there was clearly goaltending on the play.

Boston College rushed the ball down court only to have a three-point attempt by Louis Hinnant come up short.

The Eagles went without a field goal for a nine-minute stretch spanning the two halves as Villanova fought back from its 16-point deficit.
