NHL: Atlanta 5, Boston 4 (SO)

BOSTON, March 21 (UPI) -- Jim Slater scored during the seventh round of a shootout Tuesday to give the Atlanta Thrashers a 5-4 come-from-behind win over the Boston Bruins.

The Thrashers scored three times in the third period. Steve McCarthy's goal with 1:08 left in regulation sent the game into overtime. Brad Larsen, Marc Savard and Bobby Holik also scored goals for the Thrashers, who moved into the eighth spot in the NHL Eastern Conference, one point ahead of Montreal.

Kari Lehtonen stopped 27 shots for Atlanta, which has won four of its last five games and seven of its last nine.

Patrice Bergeron had a goal and two assists for Boston. Brad Stuart missed the net on a chance to extend the shootout. Tim Thomas stopped 36 shots for the Bruins, losers of eight of their last 10 games.
