Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
NEW YORK, March 21 (UPI) -- The New York Jets on Tuesday signed veteran defensive lineman Kimo von Oelhoffen.
"We identified Kimo as a tough, smart, physical, versatile player who contributed to a Super Bowl winner," said Jets Coach Eric Mangini. "After meeting with him, we realized he is a good fit in the defensive techniques we are installing."
A former Pittsburgh Steeler, von Oelhoffen joins the Jets after winning a Super Bowl championship in 2005.
In twelve NFL seasons, von Oelhoffen, 35, has played in 175 regular-season games (130 as a starter) and totaled 367 tackles, 25.5 sacks, seven fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles. He has also made 10 postseason starts and recorded 20 tackles and two sacks.
The 6-foot-4, 299-pounder joined Pittsburgh for the 2000 season after spending six years as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals, who selected him out of Boise State in the sixth round of the 1994 NFL Draft.
