NEWARK, N.J., March 16 (UPI) -- The New Jersey attorney general's office says it will subpoena NHL coach Wayne Gretzky's wife, Janet Jones, to testify about an illegal sports gambling ring.
"She will be receiving a subpoena to testify before a grand jury once it convenes," said David Wald, a spokesman for the attorney general's office.
Phoenix Coyotes associate coach Rick Tocchet and New Jersey state trooper James Harney were charged Feb. 6 with running a mob-connected sports gambling ring that catered to professional hockey players and celebrities.
State authorities told Jones previously that she is unlikely to face criminal charges, although she could be called to testify in front of the state grand jury, the Newark Star-Ledger reported.
The newspaper said sources claim Jones bet close to $500,000 with the ring during a six-week period.
