NHL: New Jersey 4, Washington 3 (SO)

WASHINGTON, March 11 (UPI) -- The New Jersey Devils notched a 4-3 shootout victory over the Washington Capitals Friday night at the Verizon Center.

Scott Gomez led the Devils with two goals and Patrik Elias had three assists. It was Elias' first game back since the Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, when he hurt his ribs playing for the Czech Republic team.

Martin Brodeur blocked 25 shots for the Devils who have won two of its past three games.

The Capitals' goals were spread between Matt Pettinger, Bryan Muir and Dainius Zubrus.

Olaf Kolzig blocked 27 shots for Washington, who snapped a two-game win streak.
