Pennetta advances to Acapulco semis

ACAPULCO, Mexico, March 3 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy Thursday advanced to the semifinals of the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL tennis tournament at Acapulco, Mexico.

Pennetta, the defending champion, rallied to beat Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-0.

No. 2 seed Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany also advanced by topping American Meghann Shaughnessy 6-1, 6-2.

In other quarterfinal action, Emilie Loit of France beat Argentina's Natalia Gussoni, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 and Maret Ani of Estonia beat Laura Pous Tio of Spain, 7-5, 6-3.
