COL BKB: UAB 80, Memphis 74

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., March 3 (UPI) -- Marvett McDonald had 17 points and two steals Thursday night as Alabama-Birmingham topped 3rd-ranked Memphis, 80-74.

Frank Holmes added 14 points, four rebounds and one steal; Wen Mukubu had 12 points and six rebounds; Paul Delaney had 11 points, six rebounds and three assists; and Caridell Johnson had 10 points, five assists and six rebounds for the Blazers (21-5, 11-2 C-USA), who have built a five-game winning streak.

Darius Washington had 17 points, five rebounds and two steals; Rodney Carney added 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists; and Joey Dorsey had 11 points and 16 rebounds for the Tigers (26-3, 12-1), who had a 15-game winning streak snapped and missed out on a chance to clinch the Conference USA title.

Memphis, which trailed, 46-40, at the break, out-rebounded UAB, 42-31.
