SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., March 2 (UPI) -- Barry Bonds will star in a reality television show on the ESPN networks as he chases Babe Ruth for second place on baseball's all-time home run list.
The show is scheduled to run in April or early May. Tollin/Robbins Productions, ESPN Original Entertainment and the San Francisco Giants' slugger will team to produce 10 hours of programming to be aired each week on one of the ESPN networks until Bonds surpasses Ruth.
"The key here is capturing reality and not creating or altering reality," said the show's co-producer, Mike Tollin.
As the 2006 season begins, Bonds is third with 708 home runs. Ruth is second at 714 and Hank Aaron is the leader with 755. The 41-year-old Bonds, who said recently that he will retire after the 2006 season whether or not he eclipses Aaron's mark, has made headlines this week by spoofing "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul at the team's training camp in Arizona.
