Speaking at a post-Games breakfast in Turin, Rogge said he had difficulty coming up with the right term to describe the event.
"It was only after an hour with a dictionary and with the help of Coordination Commission Chairman Jean-Claude Killy and Olympic Games Executive Director Gilbert Felli that I was able to find a word that truly reflected these Games and the (Turin organizing committee): 'magnificent.'"
Rogge was presented with books signed by the athletes who stayed in Olympic villages used during the Olympics.
"The Olympic Village is a sacred place and it gave me the utmost pleasure to spend time there with the athletes during these last 2 1/2 weeks," he said.
The Games concluded Sunday with closing ceremonies during which the Olympic flag was presented to the mayor of Vancouver, British Columbia, where the 2010 games will be contested. The 2008 Summer Games are scheduled for Beijing.
