COSTA DO SAUIPE, Brazil, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Nicolas Massu Saturday beat Alberto Martin, 6-3, 6-4, to win the Brasil Open at Costa do Sauipe, Brazil, capping an impressive start to the season.

"I am very happy since this is my first title since the Olympics," Massu, the sixth seed, said after the match. "I did get nervous at the end of the match but thanks to God I managed to close it and win this very important title."

Massu reached the quarterfinals in Auckland, New Zealand in January and the final at Vina del Mar, Chile earlier this month. It was his sixth career title.

For Martin, the loss marks the second year in a row in which he finished as the runner-up in this event. Last year, he lost to current world No. 2 Rafael Nadal and was seeking his fourth career title.

For winning, Massu collected $52,000 while Martin will earned $30,600.
