Ohno gets the best of South Korean rival

TURIN, Italy, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- American Apolo Anton Ohno bested his South Korean rival in a final individual Olympic showdown Saturday night by winning the short-track 500-meter sprint.

That victory was muted somewhat by South Korea's victory in the closing 5,000-meter relay, but Ohno relished his win over Hyun-Soo Ahn in the latest battle.

The closing night of short-track skating also saw South Korean Yu-Sun Jin win her fourth gold medal of the Games in the 1,000-meter race.

Ohno and Ahn got caught up in an international feud four years ago when South Koreans blamed Ohno for a collision that took Ahn out of an Olympic event. Ahn gained revenge earlier in these Olympics when he won the 1,000 and 1,500.

Ohno, however, came back to get the 500 with a time of 41.935. Francois-Louis Tremblay of Canada was second and Ahn third.

In the relay, Ahn teamed with Ho-Suk Lee, Ho-Jin Seo and Suk-Woo Song to defeat Canada by just under a half second. The United States was third.

In the women's 1,000, Jin defeated two Chinese skaters -- Wang Ming and Yang Yang.
