WASHINGTON, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Guard Jarvis Hayes of the Washington Wizards has undergone successful right knee surgery.
The procedure, performed on Tuesday, was to repair a non-healed right patella fracture and could cause Hayes -- the 10th overall pick by the Wizards in the 2003 NBA Draft out of Georgia -- to miss the rest of the season.
"I was looking forward to getting back on the floor with my teammates, but I've learned that this is the best way to get me back and ready to play." Hayes told the Washington Times.
The 6-foot-8 inch Hayes will need 6-8 weeks to rehab the knee after which it will be re-evaluated, when the Wizards will have three regular season games left. He suffered the injury on Dec. 16 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
In 21 games, he has averages of 9.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest. In his career, Hayes has averages of 9.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in 145 games.
