Team USA blanks Swiss in Olympic hockey

TURIN, Italy, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- A goal by Tricia Dunn-Luoma as her team was down two players helped boost the United States to a 6-0 Olympic hockey victory over Switzerland Saturday.

The American women scored four times in the last 13 minutes to break open the game, but things were a lot closer when Dunn-Luoma came through with her key goal.

Switzerland was trailing by only one and was trying to capitalize on its five-on-three advantage midway through the second period when Dunn-Luoma picked off a pass and took off on a breakaway.

Katie King scored in the first period for Team USA. Krissy Wendell scored twice in the third and Natalie Darwitz and Jenny Potter had one goal each.

Patricia Elsmore-Sautter stopped 50 of 56 shots while American goalkeeper Chanda Gunn faced just nine shots.

A win over Germany Sunday will ensure a semifinal berth for the Americans out of Group B.

In the other Group B game Saturday, Maija Hassinen made 24 saves in Finland's 3-0 win over Germany. Sweden defeated Russia in Group A, 3-1.
