Trent Dilfer has knee surgery

CLEVELAND, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Veteran quarterback Trent Dilfer of Cleveland has undergone right-knee surgery.

The team said on its Web site that the procedure was performed on Tuesday by Dr. Anthony Miniaci, the Browns' head physician and executive director of Cleveland Clinic Sports Health. The surgery was to repair a partial tendon tear.

Dilfer is expected to make a full recovery.

"This past season I had some problems with my knee throughout the year, so we felt it was best to have the procedure," he said. "I am excited to be completely healthy for the 2006 season."

In 2005, Dilfer, 33 -- a first-round draft pick by Tampa Bay out of Fresno State in 1994 -- completed 59.8 percent of his 333 passes for 2,321 yards and 11 touchdowns. In his 12-year career, Dilfer, who helped the Baltimore Ravens win the Super Bowl in 2000, has thrown for 19,352 yards and 106 touchdowns.
